Overview
The Company Research app helps you discover and organize companies that match your ideal customer profile (ICP). Instead of searching for individual people, you can filter and search for companies based on attributes such as industry, funding, location, and business model. From there, you can save companies of interest, build research lists, and spin them into static company lists for use across your recruiting workflows.
Note: The Company Research app does not replace the need for custom company lists; rather, it is intended to be a research tool used to create repositories of companies that match a specific list of requirements per your inputs, then used in various projects to be edited within each specific project as needed. Updating a company research list in a project does not change it in the Company Research app.
What Does the App Do?
The Company Research app allows users:
- Search for companies instead of people. Findem is able to locate more than 4 million companies.
- Filter by attributes like industry, business model, org type, funding, investor, or parent company.
- Save companies to build focused research lists.
- Create company lists (static snapshots) that can be used in People Finder, Projects, or shared with your team.
Search Methods
The Company Research App offers three distinct search methods, each providing different results:
- Companies Search Box: Displays companies matching the entered keywords in their names.
- Keywords Section: Searches for keywords across the entire company profile.
- Industries Section: Searches specifically against the industry classification of companies.
Using these different search methods together can help you find the most relevant companies for your needs.
Getting Started
Create a Research List
- Go to the Company Research app.
- Select Create New Research List.
- Give your list a name (e.g., AI Companies in San Francisco).
- Use the left-hand filter panel to narrow down results by:
- Industry (e.g., Artificial Intelligence)
- Business model (e.g., B2B)
- Org type (e.g., private vs. public)
- Location (e.g., San Francisco)
- Funding stage, investor name, and more.
Note: Data is sourced from Crunchbase.
You can also use the AI Assistant to build a company list based on your input prompt, as well as import files.
Browse and Save Companies
- Results are displayed in a table with key company details like funding, size, and domain.
- You can:
- Bookmark companies (similar to shortlisting people).
- Select companies individually or in bulk.
- Expand results up to 100 per page.
- Visit a company's website directly by clicking its domain.
Saved companies will appear in the Saved Companies tab of your research list.
Manage Your Saved Companies
- Add or remove companies using the bookmark icon.
- Upload additional company names manually or from a list.
- Combine AI-suggested companies with your own inputs for a complete list.
Convert Research into a Company List
When you're ready to operationalize your research:
- From your research list, select Use in Other Apps.
- Confirm to create a Company List.
- The list will be saved under Companies with the name of your research list + date.
- This is a static snapshot: changes made in your research list do not affect the company list once it's created.
Important Notes
-
Research List vs. Company List:
- Research Lists are dynamic and used for exploring/saving companies.
- Company Lists are static copies created from a research list at a point in time.
- Editing one does not affect the other.
- You can share your research list with your organization so teammates can access your findings.
Example Use Case
A recruiter wants to find private B2B Artificial Intelligence startups in San Francisco.
- They create a new research list.
- Apply filters: Industry = AI, Business Model = B2B, Org Type = Private, Location = San Francisco.
- Save relevant companies.
- Convert the saved list into a company list, which can then be used in People Finder or Projects.
Summary
The Company Research app streamlines the process of identifying, saving, and organizing companies that match your ICP. By turning research into company lists, you can take your findings into other workflows, ensuring consistency and collaboration across your team.
